Creating things has always been a part of my life. When I was a young chld, I remember sitting with my grandma at the sewing machine making Barbie clothes for my dolls, or making bowls with clay, or using some object found on the family farm to make a piece of art. The work ethic in our home was a learn to do it yourself attitude, so I learned the needed skills to fix my car, refinish furniture, use a hammer, and sew clothing. These skills have all played a part in the molding of my art career.
I am first and foremost a mother, a wife, and an artist. My subject matter, however, is not limited to these subjects. What is expressed in my art, are my own interpretations of the natural world and the spirituality I feel in viewing it. I draw and paint for the joy of doing so. An artist naturally feels the need to share art. I do that by showing and selling my work, but I also teach art classes to all ages. I especially enjoy teaching a child to appreciate his or her own abilities. My art work captures the exhaustion and exhilaration of life as both a creative artist and busy parent. My children inspire me with both their imaginative minds and creative energy. As I nurture and care for them, they continually feed my thoughts with their quirkiness. But parenting is physically and emotionally demanding! The cleaning, cooking, chores, and laundry never end, along with the urge to create art. My recent work explores the idea of color, what it symbolizes, and its effect on emotion. Color has many layers and textures; this is something I can identify with in my life. The way one color merges with, melts into, and then becomes another color is appealing to me. Please feel free to contact me about a class, private lessons, or a workshop for you or a group. Corporate team building programs and art lectures also available.
